There is a subtle art to buying bootleg
videos, especially when it comes to Generation X: The Movie. Many
of you may wonder "But why would I want a bootleg? Can't I get this the legal
way like, say, on Amazon?" I'm afraid not. Despite two X-Men movies,
no one has woken up to realize that they could release this flick on DVD
to cash in on the franchise. Oh well...
Ebay
happens to be the best spot currently to get your bootleg. You can
usually get one for about $10-20. Try to aim for a low price if you do go
this route, as this movie, although cool as a fanboy item, is not worth
spending all that money on.
Also, there are some better versions than others. For example, if you
get the so-called "uncensored" version, you won't have any commercials
and will also have more cursing the the version that aired on television.
Over in England, you see, the movie has been released on tape; however,
the versions you will be buying on eBay will still be bootleg. Sorry.
The real advance in bootlegs has come just recently, as DVD versions
of the movie have finally hit eBay. I have yet to get a copy myself, but
so far as I know, they seem to be region free and work in America just fine.
Many versions come with covers, too. These are cool, but I suggest not making this a
driving force to buying a particular version as covers are not that hard
to make yourself. Also, be warned, people will say their version is a "retail
version" or the version you'd get at video stores. It is not. There is
no such thing in America, trust me. If there were, you'd be able to find
it collecting dust in your local video store.
