X-Men: Evolution
My Thoughts

As many of you know, Saturday, November 4 was the television premire of the new show, X-Men: Evolution. I managed to watch and record it and this is my review on the show.

X-Men: EvolutionSummary:

First off, a summary of the episode. For any of you, who hasn't seen it and don't want it spoiled, please don't read this because I'll be revealing possibly big spoilers for the show.

The episode titled "Strategy X" started at a football game, which was attended by Jean Grey, who was there as a photographer for the school newspaper and Scott Summers (Cyclops) who was watching the game. Behind the bleachers is Todd Stalasky (Toad) who is busy pickpocketing the people in the stands but is caught by a couple of the football players. Scott catches them picking on him and picks a fight with the team captain. Accidently Scott's glasses fall off and he accidently blasts the player and starts a big explosion and fire. Luckily, Jean was there to help him and the Professor to erase the minds of the police officers to stop any further suspicion on Scott.

Now, the scene shifts to the metro where Professor X and Ororoe Munroe (Storm) are to pick up a new student named Kurt Wagner and find him, wearing a hood and clothes that covered his entire body. This switches then, to a place in the middle of nowhere where a mysterious biker goes to get a drink and discovers that a place he knows of is in trouble from a headine of the newspaper sold there titled "Explosion at High School: Students escape serious injuries from freak accident."

Fast forward to the school, where Scott and Jean are leaving for school and just before, meet the new student Kurt who reveals his demonic looks and teleportation abilities and Scott gets a short lecture from the Professor about using his powers in public. At the school, we see Todd meeting with the school principal, who scares Toad by transforming into a monster into doing the task of spying on and talking with Scott. Back at the mansion, Professor X and Storm are talking with Kurt and give him an image inducer that gives him the ability to make him look "normal" much to his delight. Todd approaches Scott at the school duing lunch and reveals his unique jumping ability and long tougue to him and also, his knowledge of Scott's unique ability. Afterward Cerebro alerts the Professor of Todd's usage of his power and Scott calls him to tell him about Todd though making it clear that he doesn't really like him at all.

Despite that the Professor asks Storm to audition a student for him and she heads out to test out Todd's capabilities when Todd sneaks on to the school campus. There he manages to jump away from Storm's thunderbolts and collides into Kurt, who is walking around the mansion. They start fighting and then, Kurt accidently teleports them to the Danger Room, which starts firing at them. The Professor alerts Scott and Jean who were about to go into there but now, go to save Kurt and Todd. After quickly saving them and the Danger Room turned off, Todd runs off in fright but not off campus when he runs into a man with claws on his hands, who gets suspicious of Todd. The Professor comes and greets the stranger and tells him to let Todd go. Kurt runs off alone after feeling guilty for letting everything happen but is comforted by Scott, who cheers him up. Finally, the last scene features Todd running back to the principal who gets angry at his actions and runs off again but afterward reveals the principal's true identity as Mystique a shape shifter, looking strangely like Kurt and the true mastermind behind Mystique's actions,  a man in a long cloak and a distinctive helmet.

Writing:

Excellent! The language is perfect for this time and the dialogue between the Professor and Scott I think perfectly portrays the rebellious student and teacher routine. There weren't really any major quirks I noticed outright but I was a little sad that Storm didn't have has many lines as I would have liked. The orgin of their unique abilities and powers weren't talking about either but I am thinking that it'll be talked about later on in the series I hope.

Graphics:

Just as good as the storyline was. The graphics were pretty cool though Mystique looked a bit weird somewhat to me but it could be just me. Nothing seemed out of place, which was nice and showed real quality in the way it was. If this is a hint of the quality of the graphics later then, the show is on its way.

Voice Acting:

All of their voices seemed to fit the characters overall I noticed. No character really stuck out at me I admit. Kurt's accent was portrayed excellently given his background.  Was it me or did the Professor's voice sounded almost exactly as expected?

Opening Credits:

Every show has an opening that has the job of catching the watcher's attention and keeping it on the television. In a way, the opening credits could mean a show's sucess or failure. X-Men: Evolution had an interesting opening which caught my attention and the music not that likeable as it could be but better than some I know of. It will attract the attention of some people I think though isn't as dynamic or unique as I've seen.

Overall:

Excellent first episode! The voices are excellent and the writing, unique and up to day. There is little in this episode that screaming error. If this episode is proof of what is expected, then this show is a sure hit!

Grade:

Writing - A+
Graphics - A
Voice Acting - A

OVERALL - A
